In addition to the uncertain politics, KMC president Ian Anderson’s statement “our approvals are in hand, and we are now ready to commence construction activities this fall” in the press release announcing the investment decision is simply not true.

Pre-construction NEB conditions remain to be met and the proposed route of the pipeline is not even approved. Nearly 400 statements of opposition have been filed with the NEB to date and due to mismanagement by the company of their responsibilities in that process the period for filing statements of opposition will soon be restarted for the entire pipeline, pending NEB approval of the company’s plan to correct those earlier errors. Following that will be public hearings and in all likelihood some route segments will be rejected by the NEB.

It is concerning that investors eyeing the company’s IPO who are not familiar with the regulatory process and the state of the Trans Mountain expansion project may be misled by Anderson’s statements.
